Side A is a solid, well-tested UI bugfix (vote highlighting/slider polarity) with good tests, but it's narrower in scope and mostly CSS/JS polish plus a per-group ranking fix, offering less structural improvement than B's consolidation of auth handling into the existing generic form-submission mechanism.
